What is Reiki?

Reiki 101:

Reiki, pronounced “Ray-Key” is an ancient and most beautiful “laying-on of hands” healing practice. REI, meaning "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy", that flows through everything. Therefore, Reiki, is the universal energy that is powerful, but gentle and is life giving; its endless supply is the most natural healing system available. Reiki may also be translated as “Spirit-guided” or “soul-guided” life force energy. If one's "life force energy" is low or not in balance, then we are more susceptible to illness and stress, and if it is high and in balance, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Reiki heals all levels: At the physical level, Reiki supports the body’s natural ability to heal itself while ridding the body of harmful toxins. Mentally, Reiki flows into the mind and Neuropathways of the brain, allowing the release of old patterns and negative thought processes. As Reiki flows into all levels of a person’s emotional energy body, it releases blockages and stuck feelings, promoting positive feelings such as love, trust and goodwill towards self and others. When Reiki flows into the soul and spirit, it helps a person to discover their spiritual path and life purpose. It promotes the qualities of love, compassion and connects to the Divine, the Creator, the Cosmic Spirit, the All that Is.

A Reiki treatment takes place fully clothed on a comfortable futon mattress at floor level or on a massage table or sitting in a chair. A Reiki treatment can also be sent distantly. A Reiki practitioner uses a light touch by placing his or her hands on a client's body or held closely above the body with an intention to heal. A gentle feeling of warmth and tingling may be felt through the practitioner's hands.

There are eight to twelve hand placements on both the front and the back of the client. Very little pressure is applied, and there is no rubbing that may be normally associated with a massage. The ki energy flows through the practitioner and is drawn in by the recipient. The experience is often profoundly relaxing, relieving pain, and may also be energizing, creating many beneficial effects that include feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. You may feel a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you.

Many have reported miraculous results from Reiki treatments, while others may not perceive it immediately, the healing does happen. You may notice it a few days later, when you realize you're more relaxed and feeling better.

Reiki has had a positive affect on all forms of illness and negative conditions. This includes minor things like stress, headaches, tension, flu, as well as serious illness like heart disease or cancer. Where Reiki is practiced along with allopathic (western) medicine, it is found that many side effects of regular medical treatments are reduced or eliminated. This includes the negative effects of chemotherapy, post operative pain and depression as well as improving the healing rate and reducing the time needed to stay in the hospital. Reiki has rapidly gained acceptance in major hospitals, hospice care and especially among the nursing community.

Reiki is NOT intended to replace conventional medicine but to be used to complement it.
